The Hudson River is Made of Salt Water.

And being as such, it is loaded with salt-water creatures.

Janice and I spent our weekend in New York City and did the NYC/Nautica Triathlon on Sunday. Wow -- what a race course. A swim in the Hudson. A ride along Henry Hudson Highway, down from midtown Manhatten up into the Bronx and back. And then a run through Central Park. It was perfect.

Oh -- except the river. As I was swimming along, I felt my face and neck start to sting. Like really sting. My goggles were foggy, so I couldn't see anything, and figured it must either be toxic sludge or the remains of a dead corpse burning my skin. I swam on.

When I got to transition I heard a few women in my wave talking about all the jellyfish in the water. Yes, JELLYFISH!!! Apparently they were everywhere. And particularly ON MY FACE!!!!

Be thankful--I certainly am-- that there aren't jellyfish on marathon courses.

You have set a new standard for toughness in this group, Foo. Seriously....I don't think any one of us can say that we have been stung by jellyfish during marathons or any other race! And you looked great, by the way. You couldn't even tell that a sea creature had recently tried to kill you.

I almost signed up for that race...I am SO GLAD I didn't. Plus, the fact that the race organizers almost have an entire page on their website dedicated to talking people into the water and that it's not that bad was sort of a turn off. To me, that's a huge sign.

Congrats, nonetheless. I am decidedly not that tough.
